Traditional research extracts data from communities and delivers findings to institutions. Vuka does something fundamentally different. We train community members as professional researchers, establish Community Research Councils with binding governance authority and ensure that every recommendation reaches communities first — before it reaches anyone else.
That model costs more than a standard survey. It requires paying community researchers $25 to $30 per hour because their cultural expertise, relational trust and time have genuine economic value. It requires staying through implementation — not just delivering a report. And it requires building the kind of institutional infrastructure that can hold power accountable over time, not just document its failures.
